About
Joseph El-Khoury is a Lebanese-American filmmaker working in both fiction and non-fiction, examining existential dilemmas and social issues through the lives of everyday people.
An MFA Directing graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory ('25), Joseph made his mark with his thesis film Kavor—an intense family drama set against the ornate traditions of an Armenian wedding. Kavor earned competitive production funding and internal support, showcasing Joseph's gift for mining cultural stakes and emotional resonance.
Joseph earned his BFA in Film/Video from CalArts ('22), where he honed his narrative instincts and experimental sensibilities. His thesis film, One Beer, starring character actor Troy Evans, enjoyed strong festival play and secured his admission to AFI, which he began in 2023.
Joseph continues to develop bold, genre-bending projects across fiction and documentary, always championing underdogs whose unconventional, human stories shine light on the big questions we all live with.
